Interested In volunteering with MitE?
We’re always on the lookout for new volunteers. We’re looking for committed Christians, lay or ordained, who enjoy a challenge, are good listeners, and able to engage with people from all walks of life.
If this sounds like you and you’re interested in supporting people in their place of work, we would love to hear from you.
We offer a six-week trial for new volunteers so that you can get a feel for the role before committing to anything long-term.
All of our new volunteers receive training in the basics of workplace chaplaincy, things you may come across as a chaplain, and basic mental health awareness. Read more about the training.

FAITH EMERGENCY RESPONSE VOLUNTEERS
We are recruiting volunteers to respond to a major incident following the Unity Plan as agreed with the Red Cross and Churches Together Merseyside.
The aim of the Unity Plan is to provide a planned and coordinated approach by the Faith Community in response to any potential major incident by giving emotional, moral and, if specifically requested, spiritual support to those directly affected.
The Plan attempts to combine the need for a swift response involving the minimum of procedure with a wish to have effective coordination between the different faiths and denominations and with the Category One responding agencies in the aftermath of a disaster.
The Plan was first produced in 1993, with Churches together in the Merseyside Region (CTMR) and in December 2022, CTMR formally commissioned Mission in the Economy (MitE) to become to ecumenical lead body, responsible for implementing this plan. MitE is responsible for contacting, deploying and managing the Faith Emergency Response Team (FERT) volunteers.
The Unity Plan is intended for use within the five boroughs of Merseyside: Liverpool City, St Helens MBC, Knowsley MBC, Wirral MBC and Sefton MBC.
It is emphasised that this Plan is to enable the Faith Community to respond effectively when requested. It does not suggest that the Faith Community has the right to intervenece however compassionate the intention.
There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement under Paragraph 1, Schedule 9, of the Equality Act 2010 that Volunteers must have an affiliation and commitment toa faith community affiliated to:
Together for the Harvest (Evangelical Alliance)
Churches Together in the Merseyside Region (Churches Together in Britain and Ireland)
Muslim Council of Britain
The Board of Deputies of British Jews
The Sikh Federation (UK)
The Hindu Council (UK)
Network of Buddhist Organisations (UK)
Humanists (UK)
Only the volunteers as listed by MitE may attend the scene of a major incident under a Faith Capacity.
