Birchwood Business Park

Situated in the heart of Birchwood's thriving business community, the Birchwood Business Chaplaincy works with individuals and companies to provide a listening ear and support to people of all faiths or none.

The Chaplaincy team at Birchwood also provided support to the Hillsborough Inquests which were held at Birchwood Park and concluded in April 2016. Chaplains were available throughout the Inquests to meet with those attending in an informal setting and offer support during the difficult and lengthy process.

In the Quiet Room you will find a unique way to pray - a colourful Prayer room. Its an opportunity to offload the concerns and difficulties woven into our lives and know that God listens and God cares.

The Hillsborough Inquests

The Hillsborough Disaster was a human crush at Hillsborough Football Stadium in Sheffield on the 15th April 1989. Resulting in the death of 96 people and injuring 766 more, it remains the worst disaster in British sporting history. On 31st March 2014 new Inquests began in Birchwood Park into the disaster and the response of both the emergency services and the fans present. MitE Chaplains have been present throughout the court sittings which became the longest Inquest in British Legal History. The Chaplains offered quiet support to those attending court, most notably to the families of the victims, some of whom they got to know well. Now that the Inquests have concluded, the Chaplains have shared their experiences in a report which can be read HERE.

Annie Houghton Chaplain

My name is Annie Houghton and I am the Chaplain to Golden Square Shopping Centre.  There is nothing I like to do more than to meet people and get to know them after all, 'a stranger is a friend you haven't met yet.'

As Chaplain I enjoy to meeting with people from all walks of life. I aim to engage with everybody who works and shops in Golden Square in some way so that you will all know that I am here for you.

My role here is to provide a listening ear, to be a friend to all and somebody you can share the ups and downs of life with and know that, as somebody completely impartial, you will be treated with respect, honesty and fairness.

I am here for everybody, whether you have a faith or not, and I am always happy to stop for a chat, share a moan or pray with those who wish it.

Warrington Retail Market

MitE has provided chaplaincy to Warrington market for well over a decade. The market is currently being looked after by Emma Howarth, our Volunteer Co-ordinator.

We are hoping to recruit a small team of local volunteers to provide chaplaincy to the market on an ongoing basis. Are you part of a church in Warrington? Could you provide a friendly listening ear to market traders and visitors? Would you like free training in providing workplace chaplaincy? If so we'd love to speak to you.

You can get in touch via our volunteering page.
